Attach cultured (fake) river rock to tile board

I am making an address/mailbox pillar for the front of my driveway, using 
BunniCakez
manufactured river rock (flat on one side).The base of my pillar is

exterior plywood.Can l just screw on pieces of concrete tile board (1/2'')

and then mortar or thin-set my fake rock onto it?I am trying to avoid

You can use concrete board but you should install tarpaper over

directly to the mesh using mortar. The process to use with the concrete

board however is to apply a scratch coat of mortar to the concrete board

(put about 1/2'' coat of mortar on & then scratch it up well). Then when  
you apply the stone to the scratch coat with mortar, the stone will adhere

the bottom if seams are involved to allow the seams to lap over like a

roof shingle. Apply the wire lath & make sure that the perforations are

angled upward, not downward. Now you can apply the stone. Do it the easy

Yes certaily. Not much else needs to be said, though I wouldn't

use thin set. Certainly there are exterior tile mortars that will work, as
